Park Hill Junior School

Bullying

At Park Hill Junior School, every pupil has the right to an education, to feel safe, and to reach their full potential. Any action that hinders the educational or social development of any child will not be tolerated.

We aim to create a happy, supportive environment where pupils are free from bullying. We want every child to feel a strong sense of wellbeing, both inside and outside the classroom, and we ensure clear, friendly channels of communication between pupils and staff if a problem arises.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is generally defined as the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or a group by another, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. It can be physical, verbal, or psychological, and it makes it hard for the victim to defend themselves.

Types of bullying include:

  • Emotional: Being unfriendly, excluding others, or leaving people out.

  • Physical: Pushing, kicking, hitting, punching, or any form of physical violence.

  • Racist: Racial taunts, offensive graffiti, or gestures.

  • Verbal: Name-calling, teasing, sarcasm, or spreading rumours.

  • Cyberbullying: Sending mean messages online, via email, or through digital devices.

Our Aims at Park Hill Junior School

  • Foster an atmosphere and ethos where bullying is not accepted.

  • Ensure staff, pupils, and parents all understand what bullying is.

  • Encourage children to speak out and report worries by teaching them who they can talk to.

  • Take all incidents of bullying seriously, investigate them, and deal with them promptly.

  • Encourage everyone to look out for one another and stand together against unkindness.

Advice for Pupils: What to Do If You Are Being Bullied

If someone's behaviour makes you feel worried or upset, remember: you don't have to keep it a secret.

  • Try to stay calm, walk away, and tell an adult right away.

  • If you feel nervous about talking to a teacher alone, ask a trusted friend to come with you.

  • Talk to an adult at school or at home.

Above all, please talk to someone. We are here to help, and sharing your worries is always the right thing to do.
